'somewhere to rest my bicycle' was commissioned by dickson & russell on behalf of the spitalfields development corporation and ballymore properties. the installation is a response to the contemporary increase in people needing somewhere to rest their bicycle. the project is expected to be installed in autumn 2007 and to be exhibited in preceding months' design shows

contributes to an ongoing discussion of old and new spitalfields
are a product - once exhibited in spitalfields new 'strmb' can be ordered for shops, galleries, offices
they are useful
will be made out of recycled car engines and can be recycled themselves
local skills and knowledge will be employed at the local foundry
design principles encourage convenience and moveability – they can be installed and removed with little disruption
strong and durable enough for everyday life required in street furniture

beauty – the bicycle stands will be beautiful, elegant
